Andy Robertson joined the Scousers in the summer of 2017 from Hull City for a initial fee of £8 million. Currently in his ninth season for the club, the Scottish international has made 348 appearances for the club.
He has won several trophies with the Reds including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and other titles. Despite his success, he is now the second choice starting left-back. New signing Milos Kerkez has the manager’s favour with Robertson getting just two starts this season.
Leaving things too late will hamper things
Atletico Madrid came calling for Robertson over the summer. However the Spanish giants were unwilling to shell out a considerable fee. With his contract coming to an end, Atletico may make another attempt to sign the player.
If things are left too late, the 31-year old may feel more valued away from Anfield than at the club. Sorting out a new contract is the need of the hour for the club. Kerkez has been shaky at the back and having a player of Robbo’s calibre always helps.
Liverpool had left things hanging in the balance for both Salah and Van Djik earlier this year. Both veterans were just three months away from leaving Anfield. Nevertheless they stayed on, but it wasn’t the case with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who chose to go to Real Madrid for a minimal fee.
