Virgil Van Dijk to sign huge new deal before this summer

Liverpool trio Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are yet to sign new deals at Anfield.

Liverpool fans and people around the club have criticized the club’s owners, and urged them to resolve the futures of the three players. The news surrounding the trio has clouded what has been a magnificent season so far for the Reds. Arne Slot has guided his team to first place in the Premier League and Champions League group phase. The club are also in contention for every trophy available.

Yet the news surrounding the players still hangs over the club. Trent Alexander-Arnold links to Champions League holders Real Madrid continues to grow. Mohamed Salah continues to speak about his future at the club, while Virgil Van Dijk remains tight-lipped on his status.

The Liverpool captain continues to perform on the pitch, and has been one of the most reliable players this season alongside Mohamed Salah. When asked about his future a few weeks ago, the dutch defender insisted that he is ready to continue playing at the highest level:

“I love the club, the club loves me,” he said. “I love the fans, the fans love me and it is a very good foundation to be successful. In my opinion I can play for another three, four years at least at the highest level. We will see what the future brings.”

Van Dijk is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from this month, and reports indicate that one team in particular is pushing for a deal. According to Al-Jazirah, Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are in talks with Van Dijk’s representatives:

“Al Hilal has initiated serious negotiations with Liverpool’s Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk to sign him next summer before the Club World Cup in America,”

“According to sources, Al Hilal’s president, Fahd bin Nafel, has already met with the player’s agent in London.”

Liverpool need to sort out contract saga

All the news reports from inside the club so far seems to indicate that all parties involved are at a standstill. No player has agreed to put pen to paper so far. It is quite a shame for a team pushing to win trophies at the tail end of the season to have to lost three of their best players. Liverpool need to find a way to sort these issues.
