Jordan Pickford was jeered and booed every time he received the ball as the Everton goalkeeper looked to run down the clock in hope of earning his side a point.
At one point, after catching the ball and theatrically falling to the floor in stages, he laughed, smiled and winked at someone out of the sight of the TV cameras.
Yet, it was Alisson Becker who had the last laugh as the Reds were 2-0 up in the 91st minute when he mimicked Pickford’s ridiculous antics.
The Brazilian caught a tame shot by Richarlison before he remembered the timewasting from the Everton goalkeeper and fell to his knees and then to the floor, clutching the ball.
Feigning as though the shot was so difficult to handle he needed to fall to the ground, he earned applause from the Liverpool fans behind the goal as the Brazilian rubbed salt into Everton wounds.
The win took the Reds back to within one point of the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City decimated Watford 5-1 on Saturday.
