Liverpool’s £3k-a-week target is set for a new and improved deal to deter top clubs from signing the rising star.
Brighton’s Moises Caicedo has been a revelation so far this season and his form has caught the eye of the top clubs in England.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United were heavily linked with him at the end of the summer transfer window.
The Anfield outfit even reportedly made a last-ditch attempt to sign him by making a bid but Brighton swiftly rejected it.
Having only signed for £4.5M back in 2021, Graham Potter has suggested he could be worth as much as £100M, the £3.4k-a-week wage has been highlighted time and time again, with top clubs believing that he could be the ultimate bargain signing.
When asked after joining Chelsea if Caicedo is worth £42M, he said: “You’d probably get his boots for [£42m] from the chairman – maybe!
“£100m? They [interested clubs] can try. It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a fantastic level.”
However, to warn off potential suitors, the Seagulls are planning to sit down with the 20-year-old to work out the finer details of a new contract to warn off any clubs.

What does Caicedo’s new deal mean for Liverpool?
Liverpool could be dealt a blow in their reported pursuit of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. Brighton will look to hand the 20-year-old a new and improved contract.
Brighton wants to reward Caicedo for his progress since becoming a regular starter. It has been stated that the Seagulls want to put the midfielder on the same wage as the other first-team players, and want to protect the player’s value.
He still has three years left on his deal, but it’s clear to see that the Ecuadorian international is deserving of an improved deal as he’s quickly become one of their most important players.
What’s interesting is how quickly he’s become a certified Premier League player – he enjoyed a solid spell at the end of last season. Still, this year has seen him shine as a powerful, versatile and effective box-to-box midfielder.

Liverpool’s perfect midfield option?
With Liverpool currently struggling in midfield, and with multiple player’s contracts up next summer, there is certainly a conversation to be had.
His effectiveness as a number six and a number eight means he could play in the Fabinho role and also play as the left central midfielder in Jurgen Klopp’s famed 4-3-3.
Currently, his stats aren’t of a top-class midfielder – but as FbRef counts his form from the last 365 days, they aren’t a true reflection of his ability. But, they still show an all-round ability as he registers between the 73rd-84th percentile for tackles, clearances, touches in the attacking penalty area and non-penalty goals.
The new contract is likely to see a high release clause inserted, as Caicedo’s stock will only continue to rise and whilst Brighton will want to hold onto him for as long as possible – his future belongs at a top club.
