Arne Slot has made a dream start as Liverpool manager this season with his side now sitting at the summit of the Premier League table after eight games.
The Dutchman has managed to get the most out of the squad despite an underwhelming summer transfer window and has lost just one game since taking charge of the Reds.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been one of his key lieutenants this season and his importance to the team is underlined by the fact that the defender has been playing with a slight injury since coming back from the last international break.
The defender’s future has been under the scanner for months as he has yet to sign a new contract and Real Madrid have offered him a massive deal to move to Spain on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool are looking like they are fighting a losing battle to keep him but the player has not allowed the speculation to affect his performance on the pitch this season.
The Liverpool star makes a bold statement
Coming into the new season, no one knew what kind of Liverpool we would see following the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
There was talk of a new era starting under Slot but Alexander-Arnold admitted that all the noise didn’t bother him much and he was always confident about the quality of the squad Liverpool had at the start of the season.
He insisted that it felt good for the players from the start of Slot’s reign and the new manager was clear about wanting to win trophies at Liverpool from the offset.
“It doesn’t bother me. We had to try and figure out how good we were as a team in a new system and if that system was going to work and obviously it has”, he told Sky Sports.
“We have a lot of world-class players but a new manager and a new system, so of course on the outside looking in you’re thinking, ‘I don’t know. Can they go and challenge the City’s and Arsenal’s?’
“But for us, we were training, we felt good and we got off to a good start. As soon as we came in for the first chat with the manager, it was ‘we want to win things’.”
Liverpool will hope to take advantage of an Arsenal team struggling with injuries and suspensions when they travel to the Emirates on Sunday.
