Liverpool transfer latest as scouts watch two transfer targets worth £119m

Liverpool continue to be linked with moves to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio and Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Pedro Neto.

The international break has understandably brought an influx of transfer rumours with the lack of news as some players head off to join their countries while others remain with their clubs.

However, the winter transfer window that opens on January 1st is not that far away with just 75 days remaining.

Clubs have little over two months to prepare any transfers they believe critical to success.

What's the latest on Goncalo Inacio and Pedro Neto to Liverpool?

According to 90Min, Liverpool sent scouts to watch Goncalo Inacio and Pedro Neto. Inacio and has been tracked by the Reds for over as Jurgen Klopp continues to assess the future of his squad.

Joel Matip is ageing with his contract set to expire in the summer while Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have battled with injury, affecting their consistency.

Inacio was "close to signing for Liverpool during the summer window", according to Anfield Watch, with the Merseysiders reportedly setting aside a budget of 60 million to sign a centre-back.

Coincidentally, that happens to be the same as Inacio's €70million (£60m) release clause.

Neto is another player Liverpool have already been linked with before with Neil Jones recently reporting that the Reds are one of the sides interested in signing the Wolves star.

Signing Goncalo Inacio and Pedro Neto would be expensive

Neto should cost interested clubs around €69 million (£59.8m).

Meanwhile, Inacio is expected to cost around €70 million (£60m) due to the release clause in his contract.

If Liverpool want both players, that would set them back a combined €139 million (£119m).

Given FSG sanctioned a £146 million spend in the summer, it does seem doubtful both Inacio and Neto would join Liverpool especially given the need for a no.6.

Is signing Inacio and Neto likely?

Neither player has been earmarked as a serious target yet and so it currently doesn't appear a move is in the works but this could change if Liverpool scouts continue to report good things about the Portugal duo.

Out of the two, Inacio is the likelier option but only given that Liverpool have a greater need for a centre-back than a winger. Mohamed Salah could leave the club with his contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season.

While he could potentially leave in the 2024 summer transfer window, concrete reports are yet to emerge linking him with a move away from Anfield and until then, a right wing is not a priority for Jurgen Klopp.

Despite being the likelier signing, Inacio's price tag makes signing him quite unlikely unless Liverpool view him as a more promising talent compared to Ibrahima Konate.

However, that seems unlikely even if Liverpool have not seen the levels they were expecting from the Frenchman. His quality has been seen only in bursts due to persistent injury issues.

Before he joined Liverpool, it was revealed to Anfield Central sources that the coaching stuff believe him to have the potential to be the best centre-half in the world.
