Liverpool want £80M midfielder - His manager said he's "amazing"

Liverpool plan to challenge Premier League rivals for the chance to sign £80 million-rated defensive midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The Aston Villa no.6 is starring at the heart of Unai Emery's midfield and his performances are not going unnoticed with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester vying for his signature, according to 90Min.

Arsenal had three bids for Douglas Luiz rejected by Aston Villa in 2022 but City have rejoined the race after selling him in 2019.

Liverpool "have also made it clear that they would be interested in pursuing Luiz if he chooses to leave Villa" but there are no indications a move is "on the cards".

TEAMtalk reports that it would cost a minimum of £80 million to sign Luiz. After beating Spurs 2-1 on Saturday, Emery spoke about the 25-year-old, saying: "His performance like today was amazing. I want him."

Ever since Fabinho was allowed to join Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad in the summer, Jurgen Klopp's squad has been left without a specialist in the no.6 role.

Alexis Mac Allister has been forced to play in the holding midfield position and has done surprisingly well.

Nevertheless, the Reds need someone more suited to the role both technically and physically.

Mac Allister is a fantastic player and Liverpool got a bargain at £35 million but his skill set is more efficient further up the pitch.

Luiz, however, is proving to be one of the best in his position in the Premier League and is now the latest Brazilian to be linked with the position after recent reports discussing Andre Trindade and Gabriel Moscardo in regards to a transfer to Anfield.
