German transfer expert says LFC are one of five clubs interested in €85M attacker for 2025

Jurgen Klopp is leaving the club in the summer and now they have to prepare for life without him. The managerial hunt is ongoing but so too seems the preparation for the first summer transfer window without Klopp.

Even further beyond that, Liverpool are tracking exciting young attacker from RB Leipzig, Lois Openda.

What's the story?

According to German transfer guru, Chrisitan Falk, Liverpool are one of five clubs interested in signing Openda when his €85 million (£73M) release clause becomes active at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Reporting in his column for The Daily Briefing, Falk reports: “Lois Openda is considered unsaleable in Leipzig this summer,” says the journalist. “But he has an exit clause from 2025 for €85m [£73m].

“Interested parties from England are already lining up: West Ham, Brighton, Liverpool, Newcastle, and Chelsea. The attacker has a contract in Leipzig until 2028.”

Another Bundesliga talent to follow Alonso to Liverpool?

Assuming Xabi Alonso is named as the next manager of Liverpool FC, I wouldn't be surprised to see the 42-year-old continue Klopp's trend of targeting top talent in the Bundesliga for move to Anfield.

Openda is a *hugely* exciting player and would be one to watch for a move to Liverpool especially given the presence of a release clause. Just last summer, Liverpool triggered four releases to complete their midfield rebuild by signing Mac Allister, Szboszlai, Endo and Gravenberch.

Since the start of the 2020/21 season, the Belgian international has scored 76 goals and provided 19 assists in Ligue 1, the Eredivisie and the Bundesliga.

This season, he already has 18 goals and 4 assists including four goals in the Champions League against the likes of Manchester City.
