Liverpool "plan to finalise" signing at risk as Chelsea and NUFC spoke to his family

Liverpool's plan to sign Assane Diao from Real Betis is now under threat as Chelsea have made contact with the player's family.

Over a week ago, the Reds' "plan to finalise" the arrival of the 18-year-old was shared in a report from Fichajes.

Then, Mucho Deporte claims Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea all want to sign him and that if an offer of €15 million was made, Betis would have to sell or double his salary.

We then reported that Diao supports Liverpool but a fresh report puts a move to Anfield in doubt.

What's the latest on Assane Diao to Liverpool?

According to Estadio Deportivo, Chelsea and Newcastle have been in contact with his family regarding a move to the Premier League.

The report does mention interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, stating they "already positioned themselves to recruit him".

The 18-year-old has captured the attention of some of the biggest clubs around with six goals in all competitions for Real Betis this season.

While he's certainly an exciting player, he needs to develop some more before he's a top target for Liverpool.

The likes of Mohamed Salah will make it very difficult for Diao to find game time at Anfield.
