Mo Salah has shut down all speculation over his future by signing a new two-year contract with Liverpool. The news broke this morning, and it came after months of negotiations between his agents and the club. Salah has revealed the big reason behind his decision to stay put at Anfield.

Liverpool were trying to convince Mo Salah to sign a new deal for over a year, and it was only a few months back that the player revealed that he was yet to be offered a fresh contract.

For a while, it appeared that the forward would move on as the two sides remained far apart from reaching an agreement over a new contract, but Liverpool kept at it.

It’s a massive weight off the shoulders of sporting director Richard Hughes, but there is a big reason why the forward agreed to stay put at Anfield.

Mo Salah reveals reason to stay at Liverpool

Salah has reportedly walked away from a deal that would have seen him earn €150m annually in the Saudi Pro League, where he had several clubs chasing him.

There is a reason he chose to stay at Liverpool over earning an astonishing salary in Saudi Arabia, and it is his burning desire to keep winning trophies.

Salah believes Liverpool have a team to go on and win more major trophies, and he wants to be part of the success.

“Of course, I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before, also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football”, he told the club media.

“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”

Salah wants to win the Champions League again at Liverpool and pick up the Ballon d’Or.
