Video: £72,000/week ace leaves defender on the floor before scoring for his country in World Cup qualifier

Takumi Minamino

Takumi Minamino has scored for Japan against Saudi Arabia in their World Cup Qualifier in the 31st minute.

The Liverpool forward made the decision to stay at the club in January and fight for his place in the team despite the arrival of Luis Diaz from Porto.

He could have joined Leeds or AS Monaco but he made the decision to stay at Anfield to fight for his place which is one that fans have to have the utmost respect for.

He’s behind the likes of Jota, Firmino, Salah, Mane and now Diaz but is unwilling to give up on his Liverpool dream and I think supporters will relate.

He’s made his first statement of defiance by scoring for his country and while the finish took a deflection, Minamino was very composed in the buildup, leaving a defender on the floor with a deft touch before firing his shot on goal.

Jurgen Klopp will be delighted to see the 27-year-old continuing the strong form he has displayed this season. He has 6 goals and an assist although he is yet to make a single Premier League start.
