Despite losing interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool now seek to battle competition from Germany for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi.
Having failed to seal the deal for English international Marc Guéhi, the Reds still seem to hold a prime position for signing the defender.
The medicals were done on deadline day as Slot and Co. came forward to submit a final offer sheet on the evening of 1st September. Unfortunately, though, the deal saw rejection in the closing hours of the summer transfer window.
Oliver Glasner pulled the cord at Selhurst Park as chairman Steve Parish said no to the Reds. However, the process has still set up the Merseysiders for a smoother transfer in the summer.
As everything has been agreed with the player, there will be minimal changes to make in the summer of 2026. Arne Slot is hoping to sign Guéhi for free as the Englishman’s contract expires at the end of this season.
Real Madrid were proving to be competitive, but since their focus has shifted towards Ibrahima Konaté, the Spanish giants no longer pose a threat to the Merseysiders.
Konaté’s contract expires at the end of the season, and the Frenchman seems confident regarding his move to Spain. However, all is not rainbows and sunshine for Liverpool as the club faces new competition in their pursuit of Marc Guéhi.

Bayern Munich join the race to sign Marc Guéhi

With Bayern Munich already posing a problem in the transfer of Michael Olise, the Bavarians have also put their hands into the Marc Guéhi saga.
Head of Football at Bild, Christian Falk, told CF Bayern Insider that Guéhi might turn out to be an interesting addition to the current Munich squad.
“In defence, you have Marc Guéhi – sure, the Crystal Palace centre-back is interesting. But he also would have cost money this summer.”
“With the window shut, they now want to see how the defence will perform. Now, they have to see if it works, or if they’ll want to sell Kim Min-Jae. Guéhi could be an option for the future, but on this list is also Castello Lukeba from RB Leipzig”, Falk told CFBI.
The situation is much lighter for the Munich defence, unlike Anfield, where Arne Slot only has three senior defenders for deployment till January.
Despite their interest, Liverpool do have the upper hand, but a surprise January move would catch the Reds off guard as Slot wants a free transfer for the Palace skipper.
