The Mohamed Salah contract saga has formed the background noise for a Liverpool season where the club are now the real favourites to win the Premier League. If the Reds ever needed a reminder of how much they could miss the 32-year-old if he leaves next summer, they got a glimpse on Sunday when Salah produced a virtuoso performance to win all three points for the Merseyside giants away at Southampton.
Salah showed his quality at the St. Mary’s Stadium and stepped up for the Reds when Arne Slot’s team seemed to be heading to their only second defeat of the season.
The Egyptian dragged his team over the line with two goals and helped Liverpool to keep the momentum going with an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
However, there is still no clarity on whether Salah will be at Liverpool next season as negotiations over a new deal have dragged on for months over a new deal and there is no end in sight.
The 32-year-old wants to stay at Anfield but Liverpool have so far been reluctant to meet his demand of getting a three-year contract and it seems the talks are not going according to plan.
Mo Salah contract saga: No offer from Liverpool yet
Salah has finally spoken out about the contract situation and it seems the player has been left frustrated at the way Liverpool have been dragging their feet in the negotiations.
The forward revealed that Liverpool are yet to offer him a new contract and indicated that it has left him baffled given there are only months left on his current deal.
Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
The Egpytian conceded that while he loves the fans and the club, his future at Liverpool is not in his hands anymore and he is disappointed about the fact that he is yet to receive an offer on his table.
“Well, we are almost in December, I haven’t received an offer to stay at the club, so probably, I am more out than in”, Salah told reporters after last night’s game.
“I have been at the club for many years and there is no club like this but in the end, it’s not in my hand.”
“As I said before, it’s December, I haven’t received anything yet about my future”, he added.
I love the fans, the fans love me but it’s not in my hands or the fans’ hands so let’s wait and see.
“Of course. yeah [it disappoints me that I have not received an offer yet].”
