Liverpool and Chelsea are in the market for a striker this summer, and the clubs have always been expected to tussle in the ongoing transfer window. The Blues are now pushing to snatch a top target from under the Merseyside giants’ noses in the coming days.
The Merseyside giants are set to spend a club-record fee to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and have already snapped up Jeremie Frimpong as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement.
Liverpool are also closing in on a deal for Milos Kerkez, but the club still have a few other priorities to sort out, including the important goal of signing a striker.
However, their striker search has not gone according to plan, and Chelsea have a real edge in the race to sign a top forward who is also wanted at Liverpool.

Hugo Ekitike is almost certain to leave Eintracht Frankfurt after his goals last season ensured Champions League qualification for the German side.
Liverpool are in contact with the Frenchman’s representatives to discuss a deal to take him to Anfield in the ongoing transfer window.
However, Chelsea have done a lot more groundwork on Ekitike, and are pushing hard to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
According to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, Chelsea are now pushing to work out a verbal agreement with the striker before holding talks with Eintracht Frankfurt.
They want an agreement in place with the forward before approaching Frankfurt, who are not prepared to lower their £84m asking price this summer.
It is still unclear whether Chelsea will be ready to pay that figure for Ekitike in the ongoing transfer window, but they could try to negotiate it down if the Frenchman makes it clear that he wants to join the Blues.
