Salah’s streak comes to an end thanks to Haaland – will he break his GW2 curse?

Mohamed Salah's contract extension

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has had one of his longest streaks broken by Erling Haaland as he enters GW2 with a point to prove.

Salah, who has been arguably the league’s best attacker since arriving in the Premier League, is one of the essential picks for Fantasy Football users.

The Reds face off against Crystal Palace later tonight and Salah will be hoping to add to his goal and assist from the opening game against Fulham.

He’ll also want to put an end to an unfortunate statistic that is certainly very un-Salah-like.

Salah’s streak comes to an end

This week is the first time since GW7 last season where Mo Salah has not been the most captained player, according to the Fantasy Premier League.

It was Manchester City’s Erling Haaland who lead the way with 3,023,330 picks – beating out Salah’s total of 2,762,810.

Whereas Haaland only managed an assist in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth, fans will be hoping that Salah can fill his boots against Palace.

Salah has an unfortunate record in the second game-weeks in the PL; Salah has never scored in Gameweek 2, blanking in four of his five appearances.

His previous games (from 2017-2022) were: Crystal Palace, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Chelsea and Burnley.

Salah, who’s scored 121 goals in 194 games, will be hoping to trump that statistic – given that he already boasts the joint most opening day goals in PL history.
