£200,000/week star “eyeing a new challenge elsewhere” and LFC hold all the cards

Mohamed Salah is “eyeing a new challenge elsewhere”, according to ESPN, but it’s also reported that Liverpool hold all the cards and that the Egyptian won’t force a move through.

The attacker has carried the Liverpool frontline this season, scoring 25 goals and creating another 3 for teammates. Despite not hitting the back of the net in the Premier League since mid-February, Salah remains the joint-top goalscorer in the division with 17 strikes.

Yet, with Liverpool struggling for form and the risk of missing out on Champions League football next season, the 28-year-old is reportedly considering his future.

There has been plenty of talk regarding Salah’s future in recent days, with the Egyptian failing to rule out a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY READ LIVERPOOL FC.

ESPN write: “there is a growing sense within the Liverpool squad that Salah is eyeing a new challenge elsewhere, and intermediaries who have worked closely with the club previously have privately expressed the belief that a transfer might be possible.”

Despite the player’s openness to a move away from Anfield this summer, the report states that he will not push for a move and that gives Liverpool power over the situation. His contract only expires in the summer of 2023 which gives them time to hand him an extension or prepare to sell him at the end of next season.

The main issue that Salah and his camp will be fully aware of is that most clubs have been hit hard by the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and so any party interested in signing the forward will need to have a large sum ready.

It seems unlikely that Liverpool would accept less than £100m for Salah and currently, there aren’t many sides out there with that to spare.

Jurgen Klopp has done wonders at Liverpool, transforming the Reds from a selling club with almost no power to stop unhappy players from leaving to a club that top names are happy to spend their best years with.

It’s been an unfortunate season for the Merseyside outfit but there’s no doubt that next season will bring better fortunes, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez returning from season-long injuries.
