Roberto Firmino follows €78million Liverpool target – Reds have already agreed personal terms and made an offer

Liverpool have reportedly agreed personal terms with Darwin Nunez of Benfica and none other than Roberto Firmino has now followed him on Instagram.

The Reds beat Villarreal 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday to take one step closer to the final in Paris.

It was a dominant display. They made a side that has eliminated Juventus and Bayern Munich on their way to the semi-finals with minimal fuss, limiting their opponents to just one shot with that shot off target.

Any top players watching the Reds around the world would surely relish the opportunity to join Liverpool yet the Merseysiders operate differently to their rivals in the transfer market.

While Kylian Mbappe wouldn’t be out of place among the stars already at Anfield, Klopp has only once bought a superstar in Thiago Alcantara.

And that was an exception to the rule because it made sense for the player, for Klopp and the financials made sense to FSG.

Signing someone like Mbappe, unless there are major details hidden from the club, doesn’t make any sense for a club like Liverpool that values sustainability very highly compared to the likes of Chelsea and the  Manchester clubs.

So when news broke over the past week that Liverpool have agreed on personal terms with Benfica star Darwin Nunez, it wasn’t difficult to believe.

Then news followed of an opening offer for the 22-year-old, who is valued at around €78million (£66m) by his Portuguese club.

With the Uruguayan now very strongly linked with a summer switch to Anfield, eagle-eyed Liverpool fans have spotted that Roberto Firmino has followed him on Instagram.

Of course, that alone wouldn’t mean much as the Brazilian and other Liverpool players follow players from other clubs already but the timing is certainly interesting.

Any developments in the story will be brought to you by Anfield Central and with this seemingly a story to remain updated on, it will be fascinating to see how things progress with the transfer window set to open on the 10th of June.
