Revealed: Mbappe’s verbal agreement to join Liverpool

Kylian Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool since he was at Monaco. The world super-star has crossed lines with the Merseyside giants several times over the years and the tantalising prospect of him wearing the Red shirt has often been mentioned.

The forward joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and has scored nine times in 17 appearances across all competitions this season.

He scored in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Leganes last weekend and is coming into the Champions League clash against Liverpool tonight in some form.

Mbappe will line up in the starting eleven for the reigning European champions against Liverpool at Anfield tonight and hopes to show why Real Madrid kept chasing his signature for a number of years.

However, it would also be a chance for Liverpool fans to think what could have been had the Reds succeeded in getting a deal over the line to sign Mbappe a few years back.

The Reds had a verbal agreement to sign Kylian Mbappe

Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign Mbappe for a number of years and there were reports that the German met the Frenchman to convince him to move to Anfield a few years back.

Liverpool sold Sadio Mane in 2022 and Mbappe is the player Liverpool wanted to sign to replace the Senegalese attacker.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Liverpool went as close as possible to sign the forward more than two years back.

It has been claimed that Mbappe verbally agreed to join the Merseyside giants from PSG in the summer of 2022.

The Frenchman later revealed that he spoke to the Reds as Liverpool are his mother’s favourite club.

However, Liverpool eventually failed to work out the finances of the deal and Mbappe stayed put in Paris.

Two years later, he made his much-anticipated move to Real Madrid on a free transfer and will face the team he almost joined tonight in a marquee Champions League clash.

Mbappe in a Liverpool shirt would have been a tantalising prospect but the club would feel they are in a good place now under the tutelage of Arne Slot.
