Liverpool are hard at work to strike an agreement with super-agent Jorge Mendes for the Fabio Carvalho’s signature, Football Insider reports.
After chief scout Barry Hunter gave the green light, work started on a deal to sign the 19-year-old.
He was in attendance as Carvalho scored in Fulham’s 6-2 thrashing of Bristol City on Saturday.
Liverpool are being proactive to “steal a march on their rivals by setting up a deal in the coming months to sign the winger when his contract at Fulham expires in the summer.”
The teenager will be a free agent in the summer and so Liverpool are trying to ensure they have as much of the groundwork laid as possible before the vultures swoop.
An important note is that due to his age, Fulham will be due compensation for ‘development costs’.
Leeds United, Southampton and West Ham United are reportedly interested as well but it’s encouraging to read that the Reds arent waiting until the summer to make their move but have already asked about ‘the potential structure of the deal’.
Harvey Elliott’s move to Liverpool and his steady rise to prominence under Jurgen Klopp could be used as a way to show Carvalho why he should choose Anfield over other destinations.
Jurgen Klopp is world-class at developing young talent but his contract expires in 2024 so that could play on the attacker’s mind as he will only be 22 by then and so his future is very much linked to what the club has planned for the next few years.
That said, as the German’s work with Trent Alexander-Arnold in just a few short years has shown, he doesn’t need long to turn talented young players into incredible players as the Scouser is now widely regarded as the best right-back in the world.
Now, just because Carvalho is young, is represented by Jorge Mendes and is wanted by Liverpool doesn’t mean he’ll turn into a superstar but he does seem to be a hugely exciting prospect.
