Liverpool looked into signing César Huerta from Mexican outfit UNAM, according to reports.
The Reds only signed two players with one of them, Giorgi Mamardashvili, only joining the club next season while Federico Chiesa has already moved to Anfield.
Huerta is a winger and according to TUDN, the head coach of UNAM, Gustavo Lema, has confirmed that Liverpool were investigating signing the 23-year-old.
The deal ultimately fell through because Liverpool wanted to loan him to Sunderland but the Championship outfit did not want to sign him.
Lema discusses failed Liverpool move for Huerta
He said: “El Chino was scouted by one of the best clubs in the world and that is a source of pride.
“What are you going to tell people? That you have a player who was scouted by Liverpool?
“No, people want to win and that is their right. We cannot tell people anything.”
Liverpool surprised many by not making many signings after Jurgen Klopp left the club but given the quality that Arne Slot inherited, it’s a respectable decision to keep the team as it was last season.
Chiesa’s arrival will add an extra boost without radically changing the team.
Not only will this allow Slot to get his ideas across to the squad without worrying about how several signings would adjust, but it also ensures the team bond and chemistry remains unaltered.
