Report: Liverpool could sign attacker for €25m: Offered to Liverpool at discounted price

Marco Asensio has been offered to Liverpool at a cut price as Real Madrid look to offload the Spanish midfielder.

Asensio, 26, has been linked with a move to Anfield during this transfer window and reports say Liverpool could secure their man for around €25m (£21m)

Reports are suggesting Tottenham, AC Milan  and even Newcastle are interested in securing his services.

The three-time Champions League winner has not been offered a new deal at Madrid and will be playing his Football somewhere other than Madrid next season.

According to reports from the Spanish news outlet Sport, Jurgen Klopp wishes to sign the Spaniard.

There’s even been reported that Asensio is happy to take a pay cut in order to force a move away from the Spanish capital.

It also claimed that the Premier League is most likely destination for the midfielder, given the funds and money available in the English top flight.

Newcastle have entered the race as an unlikely destination but are certainly capable of funding the move thanks to their Saudi-Arabian backing.

Should Liverpool Sign Asensio?

Despite signing Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsey, the Reds let go Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi in a busy transfer window.

It means that there is no direct replacement on the right hand side of their attack other than Salah.

Asensio is a versatile attacker with great technical ability who is usually deployed on the right wing but is comfortable on either wing and could provide backup for Diaz as well.

However, the Spaniard isn’t someone with high output, with only 49 goals in 231 appearances for Madrid.

He did manage 10 goals in 31 games in La Liga last season to help Madrid to the title which was a decent return for Asensio.

Breaking that stat down further can demonstrate how that was a good return:

Those 10 goals came in 1,704 minutes of action at an average of a goal every 170 minutes which equates to just under a goal every two games – which is a very good return for someone who isn’t predominately a natural goal scorer.
