Hearts midfielder Cammy Devlin faces a defining career decision as Real Salt Lake emerge as the frontrunners to sign the 28-year-old Australian.
The MLS club have tabled a financial offer that surpasses anything else currently on the table, making it the most lucrative deal of Devlin’s professional career.
Devlin is a free agent this summer and has attracted interest from clubs in Turkey and England, in addition to the approach from Real Salt Lake and a contract extension offer from Hearts.
The midfielder is currently representing Australia at the World Cup in North America and is not expected to make a decision on his future until the Socceroos are eliminated from the tournament.
Despite the financial pull of the MLS offer, Devlin’s strong connection to Hearts after five years at Tynecastle remains a significant factor in his thinking.
He has made 172 appearances for the Edinburgh club since arriving for a bargain £30,000 from Wellington Phoenix in the summer of 2021, scoring eight goals along the way.
Real Salt Lake, who currently sit third in the Western Conference, are managed by former US international Pablo Mastroeni, with Anthony Pulis serving as assistant coach.
Pulis is the son of former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis, adding a notable footballing pedigree to the Salt Lake City club’s backroom setup.
MLS rivals Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders have also registered interest in Devlin, underlining just how highly the Australian international is regarded across the league.
Should Devlin choose to remain in Edinburgh, he would be in line to experience Champions League football for the first time, with Hearts set to face either Fenerbahce or Sturm Graz in the second qualifying round next month.
That prospect adds a significant dimension to a decision that already carries considerable weight on both financial and emotional grounds.
However, Hearts face further disruption with manager Derek McInnes expected to be announced as the new Rangers boss within the next 24 hours, leaving the club in a period of transition.
