A report from Estadio Deportivo claims that if a bid from Liverpool in the range of €30-40m is submitted, Real Betis could be forced into selling Guido Rodriguez.
They are explicit in saying that they don’t want to part ways with the 27-year-old but financial pressure could force them into a sale.
Arsenal are also interested and an offer from either side – specifically a ‘noteworthy offer’ worth in the range of €30-40m would be uncomfortable.
Betis would find have to decide on whether or not to sell or find another way to make ends meet and it seems like they would be forced into selling.
As I’ve said before, it seems unlikely to me that Guido is on the Reds’ radar at all given that he’s a no.6 and Jurgen Klopp is replacing Georginio Wijnaldum, a no.8.
If not Guido Rodriguez, then who?
At this stage, it’s really anyone’s best guess. Liverpool had genuine interest in Yves Bissouma at the start of the summer and Saul was and is a player that the Reds are interested in but nobody really knows who is going to sign for the club unless it comes from the player’s side as was the case with Ibrahima Konate.
Renate Sanches, on paper, would be a great signing as he’s got pace, tactical nous and the energy to play in Jurgen Klopp’s system.
But like Naby Keita, there are question marks over whether or not his body could handle the intensity of the Premier League and the non-stop football.
If Liverpool sign a midfielder, and it’s starting to feel as though it’s a case of if and not when, I feel like it’s going to be a player that we either haven’t been linked with at all or one that hasn’t been in the media for a while.
Whoever does arrive, Liverpool simply cannot go into the next season without signing a new midfielder as Georginio Wijnaldum was one of Klopp’s most important players and not replacing him is irresponsible.
