Rangers are facing fresh uncertainty in their recruitment structure as Technical Director Dan Purdy is set to leave the club after a brief 15-month spell.
Purdy joined Rangers in the summer of 2025, arriving from Everton where he had spent more than a decade working in recruitment and player recruitment operations.
His arrival at Ibrox was seen as a significant appointment, with the club looking to stabilise and strengthen their scouting and transfer infrastructure.
Purdy replaced Nils Koppen in the technical director role, with Koppen himself having spent just 18 months at the club before departing.
The rapid turnover in senior recruitment positions raises questions about continuity within the Rangers front office as the board now assesses its options going forward.
Rangers had already experienced disruption in their scouting department, with Mervyn Day departing his position as Lead Domestic Scout, a role he had held since September 2022.
Day’s exit represented the loss of an experienced figure who had built relationships across the Scottish and British football landscape during his time at the club.
The board is now understood to be reviewing the overall structure of the recruitment department following these departures at both senior and operational levels.
Robbie Thelwell remains in place at the club, providing some degree of stability within the football operations leadership during this period of transition.
The situation reflects a broader challenge for Rangers as they attempt to build a coherent and consistent recruitment strategy capable of competing domestically and in Europe.
Frequent changes at the top of the recruitment operation can disrupt transfer planning, player identification pipelines, and the relationships necessary to secure top targets.
Rangers supporters will be watching closely as the board determines who will take responsibility for driving recruitment decisions ahead of the next transfer window.
The club faces pressure to make the right appointment quickly, given the importance of having strong recruitment leadership in place before the summer window opens.
