Rangers are preparing to offload at least five players this summer as new manager Derek McInnes begins rebuilding the club’s first-team squad from the ground up.
The Ibrox club will listen to offers for several fringe players deemed surplus to requirements during the current transfer window ahead of what promises to be a significant overhaul.
Brazilian striker Danilo is among those set to leave, despite still having two years remaining on his Rangers contract after signing for around £5 million from Feyenoord back in 2023.
The 27-year-old forward, originally brought to the club by former boss Michael Beale, has been hampered by persistent injury problems and a sharp dip in form since his arrival.
Danilo spent the second half of last season on loan at Dutch club NEC Nijmegen, but the outfit declined to exercise their option to purchase him permanently.
Ecuador international Jose Cifuentes has also been deemed surplus to requirements after failing to make an impact since joining from MLS side LAFC three years ago.
Cifuentes has already had three separate loan spells at Cruzeiro, Aris, and Toronto FC, and has not returned to pre-season training with Rangers, confirming his exit is imminent.
Nedim Bajrami, signed by former manager Philippe Clement from Italian side Sassuolo in 2024 for around £3 million, was never able to secure a regular starting position at Ibrox.
The Albanian international was a bit-part player under Barry Ferguson, Russell Martin, and Danny Rohl, and Rangers will now look to recoup some of their investment in the midfielder.
Clinton Nsiala, who arrived from AC Milan two years ago as a highly rated youngster, will also be allowed to depart following a loan spell last season with Belgian club Westerlo.
Ross McCausland, a product of the Rangers youth academy who earned praise during his time at Aris Limassol last season, is also expected to move on despite returning to training at Auchenhowie.
The Northern Ireland international showed genuine promise during Philippe Clement’s tenure but has not been able to force his way into the long-term plans of the new management team.
While five players face the exit door, fellow fringe man Lyall Cameron has been handed an opportunity to impress McInnes and stake a claim for a first-team place this coming season.
Cameron spent last season on loan at Aberdeen and will now get a chance to demonstrate his worth at Ibrox during pre-season as the new campaign approaches.
