Rangers are pushing to finalise their £4.6 million move for Partizan Belgrade captain Vanja Dragojevic ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against St-Etienne.
The Serbian anchorman has yet to arrive in Scotland, but the club remains confident only the final pieces of paperwork stand between them and his signature.
Rangers initially tabled a £3.8 million package earlier this month, only for Partizan to reject the approach and send the Ibrox club back to the drawing board.
The revised offer of £4.6 million includes a 10 percent sell-on clause, and it now appears sufficient to get the deal across the line.
Derek McInnes will make his Ibrox dugout debut as Rangers boss on Wednesday, and he hopes to have the 20-year-old in his squad before kick-off.
Once completed, Dragojevic will become the seventh summer signing at Ibrox, joining Lawrence Shankland, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil, Ross McCrorie, Cammy Devlin, and goalkeeper Ivor Pandur.
Meanwhile, reports claiming Rangers had reached a handshake agreement with Tromso over Norwegian Under-21 playmaker Jens Hjerto-Dahl have been firmly rejected.
Record Sport broke the news last Thursday that hopes of landing Hjerto-Dahl were fading, with Cardiff providing stiff competition for the highly-rated attacker.
A story then emerged online 24 hours later claiming Rangers and Tromso had shaken hands on the terms of a £6.6 million package.
Sources close to Hjerto-Dahl have dismissed these reports, insisting Rangers have yet to reach the Arctic outfit’s asking price.
Those hopes appeared briefly reignited over the weekend when Hjerto-Dahl scored a sensational solo strike in Tromso’s 4-1 Eliteserien win over Hamarkameratene.
Any future pursuit of the Norwegian is likely to hinge on Rangers generating funds through the sale of Nico Raskin, who has attracted significant interest from La Liga.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh is holding out for a fee north of £20 million after Raskin’s impressive performances during Belgium’s run to the World Cup quarter-final.
Real Betis and Villarreal are both monitoring Raskin’s situation but have yet to produce the level of cash Cavenagh is demanding.
On the outgoing side, Danilo is set to return to Brazil on a season-long loan with Botafogo that includes an option to buy, while John Souttar is also holding discussions on a move to England.
