Rangers have entered the race to sign talented French centre-back Sankhoun Diawara, with the Ibrox club reportedly keen on the young defender.
French outlet Foot Mercato reports that Rangers have joined Basel in pursuit of the 20-year-old, who impressed during the second half of last season.
Diawara enjoyed a standout campaign with Troyes in Ligue 2, making 14 appearances and earning widespread praise in France for his performances.
The left-sided defender has been described as having had a ‘revelational’ season and represents an exciting prospect at the top level of the game.
Diawara is a France U19 international who burst onto the scene in the latter stages of last season after breaking into the Troyes first team.
With the defender entering the final year of his contract, clubs are circling, and Rangers are reportedly keen on bringing him to Scottish football.
This latest interest comes as part of a broader and increasingly active transfer window for manager Derek McInnes at Ibrox this summer.
Dan Neil recently became the club’s fifth signing of the summer, following deals for Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, and Ivor Pandur.
Rangers are also understood to have made an offer just short of £4 million for Partizan Belgrade captain Vanja Dragojevic, with that move separate from their interest in Lewis Ferguson.
McInnes spoke earlier about the transfer activity, saying: “It’s been good. A lot of the conversations were ongoing before I came in, but getting things over the line isn’t always easy.”
The Rangers boss acknowledged that competition for good players makes business difficult, adding: “People think it is easy to get signings done but normally when good players are involved, more than one team is involved too.”
McInnes praised the work being done behind the scenes, stating: “The board and the recruitment team should be pleased with their work so far.”
He was also clear that the club’s business is far from finished, noting: “Clearly, there is still more work to do but we are pleased so far.”
The manager emphasised the importance of securing players early in the window, saying: “Getting the boys in early is vitally important too. Some signings will take a bit longer, which is just the way, but getting the early signings is important.”
