The Scottish Premiership transfer window has officially closed, though free agents continue to hold out as clubs tie up remaining loose ends across the top flight.
Rangers made a statement in the final stages of the window, securing a season-long loan deal for Stuttgart winger Badredine Bouanani as one of their marquee arrivals.
The agreement includes a significant buy option, with Rangers holding the right to make the move permanent for £15.5 million next summer if the winger impresses at Ibrox.
Manager Derek McInnes expressed confidence in the club’s recruitment, believing the arrivals bring genuine “quality” to the squad heading into a demanding second half of the season.
Celtic were even busier in the final stretch of the window, completing six additions before the European registration deadline on Wednesday.
The Hoops had set their sights on Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis, making a renewed approach on deadline day in a bid to secure the Lithuanian’s services.
Celtic were prepared to submit an offer worth up to £9 million for the 22-year-old, but Torino held firm, refusing to negotiate below their valuation of closer to £13 million.
The Italian club had already moved to bring in replacements in anticipation of a sale, with Rolando Mandragora arriving from Fiorentina and Daniel Braganca joining from Sporting Lisbon.
Celtic missed the Wednesday cut-off point to register Gineitis for the Europa League, though the club are expected to return with a fresh approach in the January window.
Among Celtic’s confirmed signings, Oliver Sorensen, Jordan Lotomba, and Sam Johnstone have been included in the Europa League squad for the ongoing continental campaign.
Aberdeen, Hearts, and Hibs also completed their own transfer business as the window slammed shut across Scottish football, with Record Sport tracking all the major ins and outs across the Premiership.
Attention now turns to the January transfer window, when Celtic are widely expected to revisit their pursuit of Gineitis, provided a gap in valuation can be bridged between the two clubs.
