£271k/month LFC star given the “green light to leave this month” as approach made for ace Klopp called a ‘Monster’

PSV Eindhoven have reportedly joined the race to sign fifth choice centre-back Nat Philipps but unless Liverpool sign a new central defender, letting the ‘Bolton Baresi’ leave could be a mistake.

According to Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey, the Dutch outfit are interested in signing the 24-year-old after his impressive displays for Liverpool over the last year.

PSV have reportedly made an approach to sign the defender after learning Liverpool will let him leave this month for the right price but I still think the Reds could regret depleting their squad further.

Veysey reports: “The Merseysiders are listening to permanent and loan offers for the centre-back after he slipped down the pecking order this season.”

He adds: “The Reds have now given him the green light to leave this month.”

Nathaniel Phillips

Phillips is likely to be sent out on loan if their £12m asking price is not met and after it was reported by Football Insider last week that a £7m bid from Watford was rejected, it’s looking increasingly likely that the defender will be sent out on loan or stay at the club.

That said, at the start of the window, Fabrizio Romano did say that if Phillips, who is fondly referred to by Reds fans as the ‘Bolton Baresi’, does leave, he will only leave at the end of the window.

Phillips reportedly earns £64,615/week or £271,383/month but is a fantastic squad option for the Reds and as we saw last season, he can do a fantastic job when called up as we saw against AC Milan in the Champions League.

While the 6ft3 defender is fifth choice at Anfield behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate, we saw last season that things can turn sour very quickly with injuries and Liverpool need to be prepared.

Now, there have been no signs to suggest Liverpool are around the corner from another huge defensive injury crisis and I don’ want to be a jinx but you can never be too careful especially with players coming back from serious injuries.

Van Dijk may still not be 100% after his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear while Gomez hasn’t managed to break back into the starting XI after his patellar tendon tear and Matip is very injury prone.

Even new signing Ibrahima Konate suffered a serious hip flexor injury but fortunately, he’s shown no signs of reinjury.

The good news is that the lads at Liverpool Football Club are a lot more experienced than I am and perhaps my worrying is all for nothing! At least if Phillips goes out on loan and things fall apart, Jurgen Klopp can recall him.

After a 3-2 win over West Ham last season, Klopp was full of praise for Phillips, telling the BBC after the game: “He’s a brilliant guy, smart guy, intelligent, everything.

“He’s not easy on the eye, he’s not Messi but who cares? In the air, he’s a monster! He was incredible.”
