Neymar: “I’m tired of these ex-players – PSG star slams former Liverpool defender on Instagram Live following critcism

PSG star, Neymar, has lashed out at former Liverpool left-back, Fabio Aurelio, after he was criticised for not making the most of his talent and for not winning the Ballon D’Or.

The Brazilian forward is one of the most scrutinised figures in world football and many feel he has fallen short of what he could have achieved.

Many factors have played into the former Barcelona star’s gradual demise, with the 30-year-old scoring just 11 goals this season compared to PSG’s crown jewel, Kylian Mbappe, who has 32 goals.

Kylian Mbappe and Neymar

Former Red, Fabio Aurelio, hit out at Neymar, criticising him for his failure to make a major success of his time with PSG.

What did Aurelio say that infuriated Neymar?

Speaking exclusively to GOAL, the 42-year-old said: “I always say that I would be very disappointed if I was him.

“The ambitions he has, and for the quality and talent he has, the fact that he has never won a Ballon d’Or feels wrong.

“He has all the conditions to do it, but I don’t know what has happened. Maybe some things are more important to him than the game, I don’t know?

“You see [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Lionel] Messi, they were there at the top level for 10 or 15 years, and you never heard about problems away from the pitch, but Neymar is always involved in things like this.

“He needs to stay away from those things, because he is capable of amazing things. Maybe now, the age he is, if you don’t look after yourself, it can come back and haunt you.

“He is still Neymar, and capable of doing things that you don’t expect, but you see now he is not as fit as he used to be.”

Neymar hits back at Aurelio on Instagram Live for talking “sh*t”

The PSG star clapped back while on Instagram Live, retorting: “I’m tired of these ex-players who are there and only open their mouths to talk sh*t.

“A five minute interview and all he did was talk about other people’s lives.

“If you want to criticise, criticise. But talking sh*t like that is not possible.”

Aurelio ought to be more sympathetic given his own injury struggles

While a lot of Neymar’s recent failures may have a lot to do with off-pitch issues, there is no denying that he is one of the most unlucky players of all time as far as injuries are concerned.

I’m surprised that Aurelio, a player whose career promised so much under Rafa Benitez, isn’t more sympathetic towards his compatriot given how he struggled with injuries himself even if he may have had more discipline off the pitch than Neymar apparently does.

His freekick against Chelsea in the Champions League quarterfinals in 2009 is still one of my core memories as a young Liverpool fan.

It’s a massive pity he couldn’t remain fit for longer under Rafa as he was immensely talented but it never panned out for him.

It would get worse following his departure from Anfield as he would suffer an ACL rupture in his first season at Gremio after playing just twice in the Premier League the season before.
