Report: Liverpool will let EURO 2021 star leave if asking price is met

Liverpool will sell Neco William this summer if their £10million asking price is met with the Welsh fullback keen to play more regularly.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Williams is 'expected to leave' with the Reds appreciative of the 20-year-old's desire to be playing every week.

They claim that Liverpool will let him leave for £10million which is a decent price given that he has barely featured for the first team this season.

He's done well with Wales at the EUROs and with his nation through to the Round of 16, it will be interesting to see if he can play a starring role in a surprising venture into the knockout stages.

While I have no issue with Liverpool letting Williams leave the club this summer, it would be hugely irresponsible to not replace him given how damaging it was to not replace Dejan Lovren last summer.

The Croatian moved to Russia and Jurgen Klopp subsequently had to deal with season-long injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. As we all know, this saw Liverpool fail to defend their Premier League crown and slip 30 points into third place.

Fortunately, they still qualified for the 2021/22 Champions League campaign but failing to replace Neco Williams would be an awful decision.

In a separate report, the Echo claims that Kostas Tsimikas will not be sold despite previous suggestions that he might.

While Andy Robertson might have adequate cover, it's Trent Alexander-Arnold who needs it more. Trent will spend his holiday recovering from a thigh injury while Liverpool should be using the available time to search for cover.

The Scouser is one of the most important players in the starting XI and without him, Klopp will struggle to find the same levels of creativity and neither James Milner nor Joe Gomez will do as good a job at right-back.

Not signing a replacement for Neco Williams could prove to be a massive mistake.
