Liverpool will regret allowing €90M midfielder to join Spurs as Italian report states Spurs are moving on Reds target

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Nicolo Barella as the perfect solution to their midfield needs but Spurs could swoop in and sign him instead.

Julian Ward has already added Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay to Jurgen Klopp's squad so far this summer but with the window yet to close, Liverpool will be continuously linked with new names until it's legally impossible for the Reds to make any more acquisitions.

With Liverpool's squad extremely deep in most areas, the only area of the pitch that needs any sort of reinforcement is the engine room.

Liverpool previously linked with cash plus player deal to sign Inter star

With his injury issues interrupting his Liverpool career at regular intervals, Naby Keita has been linked with a move away from the club but he doesn't seem likely to leave.

In fact, the Reds are working on a new contract for the former RB Leipzig dynamo but that update came after CMW claimed he could move to Inter Milan.

They claimed in June that Liverpool could offer Inter Keita in order to reduce Milan's €90M asking price but a new report states that Spurs are circling the EURO 2020 winner.

Now, according to Il Messaggero, Antonio Conte wants to sign his former midfielder and further increase the quality on show at Spurs.

The Italian manager has done a fantastic job since taking the Tottenham job and signing Barella would transform the London side from an exciting, promising side to one of the very best in the Premier League.

Barella is perfectly suited to playing on the right side of Liverpool's midfield

With Liverpool already possessing plenty of quality on the left side of their midfield with Fabio Carvalho, Thiago, Jones and Keita, a right-sided midfielder is a pressing need.

Barella is world-class between the lines either in an advanced no.8 role or as a box-to-box midfielder and signing him would give Liverpool incredible depth in the engine room.

It's unfortunately an unlikely move at this stage of the transfer window but Julian Ward cannot let Spurs sign the Italian if they move in for him.

Similar to how the Reds poached an agreed deal between the Londoners and Porto for Luis Diaz, they must do the same thing again if Daniel Levy solidifies Tottenham's interest with talks or a bid.
