Report: Liverpool make £50.2m star an irresistble offer to join - Reds able to gazump salary offer

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Barcelona defender Ronaldo Araujo again and it has been reported that the Reds have submitted an irrefutable proposal to sign him.

While the Anfield outfit currently has several strong centre-back options to choose from, that could change very quickly due to injuries or if Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips leave the club.

The former has appeared for Liverpool for just 440 minutes this season and there has been talk of him leaving the club and as much as I personally believe that would be a mistake, the 24-year-old needs to be playing football more often.

Phillips may well leave the club in the next week if an acceptable offer is made, with a £15million fee being demanded to sanction his exit but a loan move is not something Liverpool are interested in.

Liverpool make "irrefutable proposal to sign" Ronald Araujo

The Uruguayan has been a fantastic player for Xavi so far in the Barcelona legend's tenure as head coach at Camp Nou and has already been linked with Liverpool several times this month.

Over a week ago, Sport via Paisley Gates, claimed that the Merseysiders are prepared to pay the defender what he's demanding in contract talks with the Blaugrana and this places them in an advantageous position.

According to Salary Sport, Araujo currently earns £35,000 per week with the La Liga outfit and is looking for a raise to extend his terms.

Mundo Deportivo corroborated Liverpool's interest in the 22-year-old a few days after the report from Sport's report on the 19th of January, claiming they have 'concrete' interest while stating that Manchester United are also attracted to the 1.88m centre-back.

The latest and most crucial report comes from El Nacional, who claim that Araujo, who is valued at £50.2million, "Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool have contacted the 22-year-old defender and presented him with an irrefutable proposal."

Would Araujo be a good fit for Liverpool's defensive system?

Klopp requires his centre-backs to be fast, positionally aware and able to win all of their 1v1 duels in transition.

Araujo is quick, strong aggressive but his positioning needs work although he is a menace to beat 1v1 and so he could be a decent fit for the Reds but I would much rather see Gomez given another chance at Liverpool.

He's still only 24 which is very young for elite centre-backs who tend to play into their mid-30s and if he's able to avoid the serious injuries that have unceremoniously cut his seasons short, there is no reason why he and Ibrahima Konate can't be the future for the Reds at the back.

That said, he's too good to spend another season on the bench and while Joel Matip's been very solid this season, his recent form has been shaky and against both Arsenal in the EFL Cup semi-final and against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, his passing at the back could have cost the Reds three or four goals.

It's going to be interesting to see what the future holds for Gomez but I hope his future is at Anfield.
