Liverpool reached personal terms agreement with 23-year-old but sporting director wants £70million to sell

Liverpool are being linked with more and more centre-backs as each day passes with Jules Kounde once again reportedly on the club's radar.

The Sevilla star is a fantastic player and has been linked with Chelsea for several months now but it seems he's on Jurgen Klopp's shortlist or at least that's what's floating around in the press at the moment.

A week ago, El Nacional reported that Liverpool "considering putting Koundé's termination clause on the table in the winter market."

The central defender has a €90m release clause in his contract which would leave Sevilla totally powerless to stop him from leaving if it was triggered and force them to release the 23-year-old.

"Liverpool have reached an agreement" with the defender over a move to Anfield but must now negotiate with sporting director Monchi as his €90million release clause is an obstacle for the Reds and other interested parties.

An update of sorts comes from Marca, who claim that Kounde is now being followed by the Reds after a "complicated summer with pressure from Chelsea to sign him."

The Reds have joined the race to sign Kounde and has admirers at Anfield but offers of less than £70million will not be listened to.

Liverpool are well-stocked in defence with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate while Nathaniel Phillips is the club's fifth choice centre-back but he's potentially on his way out of the club this month.

Signing Kounde would surely spell the end of Gomez at Liverpool who is already battling to get regular game time this season as van Dijk and Matip monopolise the Premier League minutes.

The Englishman has played 440 minutes this season which is far too few for a player of his calibre but you cannot deny Matip's form at the moment is incredible and it feels like the Cameroonian is one or two games away from scoring a wonder goal on one of his trademark adventurous runs from centre-back.
