"Internal talks" begin: Liverpool will receive 15% of transfer fee if 20-year-old completes move

Liverpool will receive 15 percent of any transfer fee paid for Ki-Jana this summer after a deal was struck in 2020.

The Dutch defender moved to Wolves while Diogo Jota went the other way, joining Liverpool for around £45million.

While Liverpool received £9m upfront and £4.5m in add-ons, a 15% sell-on clause was also inserted into Hoever's contract with Wolves.

It was a sign of faith in the young defender and a way for the Reds to protect themselves in the event that he blossomed at Molineux.

While Hoever hasn't exactly exploded into life since leaving the Reds, he has been quietly impressive and has attracted interest from Eredivisie outfits Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

The Athletic reports that Ajax want him on loan this summer with the potential for a permanent move down the line while Voetbal International states that "internal" talks could lead to a summer move for the 20-year-old.

It's impossible to know now how much Liverpool stand to make from Hoever widening his horizons on the continent this summer but it's an early indication that the Reds' long-term planning with transfers is paying off.

It's another indication of what a great job Michael Edwards did while he was the club's sporting director.

While he has only just left his role, being replaced by Julian Ward, if the Reds receive any kind of additional revenue from players like Hoever being sold, it will be another feather in his cap.
