"We're actually going to sign him" - Biggest clue that Liverpool will sign 22-year-old emerges

A report from L'Equipe suggests that sources close to PSG are aware that Kylian Mbappe will not put pen to paper on a new contract.

Fresh off his gut-wrenching penalty miss against Switzerland in the European Championships Round of 16, the 22-year-old is apparently ready to run his contract down.

His terms with the Ligue 1 giants expire on 30 June 2022.

He has spent four years at Parc des Princes and his fifth could be his last as speculation over a move to Liverpool goes into overdrive.

GFFN cites French newspaper L'Equipe as saying, "Mbappe has informed certain individuals at PSG that he will not be signing a contract extension with the capital club but that he will see out the final year of his deal, which runs until June 2022."

Liverpool's only realistic chance of signing the Frenchman is by scooping him up on a free agent move and even then his huge wages could become an issue.

Liverpool fans have exploded with excitement

Liverpool will need to find a way to pay Mbappe the wages he is likely to demand without upsetting the squad harmony as part of the Anfield outfit's success can be attributed to there being no squabbles over pay discrepancies.

Signing Mbappe would underline Liverpool's status

It wasn't too long ago that Brendan Rodgers was using Steven Gerrard to try and coax targets into joining the club and the likes of Willian, Christian Eriksen, Alexi Sanchez and Toni Kroos all rejected the Reds.

Now, with Jurgen Klopp restoring Liverpool's pride as the biggest club in England, the German can use his pull factor combined with the prestige of playing at Anfield to sign arguably the most exciting talent in the world.

In all competitions for PSG this season, Mbappe got his name on the score sheet 42 times while he contributed 11 assists as well.
