Jurgen Klopp will regret allowing Manchester United to sign €10m/season striker unchallenged

Liverpool would have benefitted massively from signing Edinson Cavani for free from PSG last summer and could have moved for Luis Suarez before he joined Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguayan was a Deadline Day signing, arriving on a free transfer on an initial one-year deal which has now been extended for another year following his outstanding form this season.

If Liverpool had acted quickly, they could have approached Luis Suarez before he moved to Atletico Madrid last summer but I guess winning La Liga has vindicated his decision to stay in Spain.

Following a season that saw the Reds fail to outscore Leicester City or Tottenham despite both sides finishing outside the top four, Jurgen Klopp will regret allowing Manchester United to sign as talented a finisher as Edinson Cavani.

This season, despite making just 17 starts in the Premier League and Europa League, the former Paris Saint-Germain striker scored 17 goals and assisted 6.

Only Mohamed Salah managed more goals at Liverpool and with Roberto Firmino failing to get into double digits for goals and assists, Jurgen Klopp will be rueing his decision not to sign an out and out striker last summer.

Fortunately, Klopp has time to ensure that his side goes into next season with all the requisite tools to ensure they aren't blunt in attack again.

The injury crisis at the back this season drew all the attention away from Liverpool's lack of a cutting edge up front but after scoring 17 goals fewer than their title-winning campaign in 2019/20, Klopp needs to sign a natural striker.

Divock Origi's clutch moments in 2018/19 helped the Reds to a historic sixth European Cup but since then, he's had very few positive moments for the club and with it likely that he will leave this summer, there are a number of options to look at.

Patson Daka, Donyell Malen and Dusan Vlahovic have been linked with a move to Anfield and although the latter would cost far too much, the first two could be very decent options for Klopp to call on.

Both are blessed with searing pace, a killer instinct for goal and can deputize on the wing if necessary.
