"I really hope he stays": Jose Enrique is desperate for 23-year-old to stay at Liverpool for another season amid exit talk
Jose Enrique has spoken about Caiomhin Kelleher amid talk linking him with an Anfield exit after his fantastic 2021/22 showing.
The 23-year-old made himself a Liverpool hero with his displays in the Carabao Cup last season, helping lift the trophy.
Jurgen Klopp gave him the honour of starting the final ahead of Alisson Becker, who told his young teammate to embrace the opportunity to etch his name into Liverpool history.
He did just that.
Jurgen Klopp revealed in February: "When we told Ali that Caoimhin will play, Ali said okay, that’s good.
"If we win it then we can put his head on the famous wall in the goalkeeper area at the AXA where all the keepers who won trophies with Liverpool are on."
According to the Athletic, Liverpool don't want to sell Kelleher and reports that although the goalkeeper is viewed as a potential no.1 in the future, they understand he wants to play.
Speaking on the matter, Jose Enrique took to Twitter.
Like many Liverpool fans, Enrique doesn't want to see the 23-year-old leave.
His ability to cover for Alisson with very little drop-off in quality is so important for Jurgen Klopp's ability to compete on all fronts.
Adrian remains third choice but he is no longer able to compete at the very top little although his experience is vital to improving Kelleher.
Liverpool confirmed on their website last week that Marcelo Pitaluga has joined Macclesfield FC on a season-long loan deal as they look to prepare him for a future at the club, playing at senior level.
