"If it were up to me": Fabrizio Romano urges Liverpool to make "at least one more signing": £42M midfielder could be it

Fabrizio Romano has urged Liverpool to make "at least one more signing" with the Italian arguing the Reds need another central midfielder.

As long as the window stays open, there remains the possibility that Liverpool could make another signing.

Jurgen Klopp has already added Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay to his squad in addition to signing Luis Diaz in the winter transfer window.

But many feel that a new midfielder is needed to guarantee success in the 2022/23 season.

In my opinion, the current ranks are enough but there's no telling what may happen if Thiago, Naby Keita and others get injured for a prolonged period. This was a massive issue before Christmas last season and injuries are inevitable.

Liverpool need at least one more signing, says Fabrizio Romano

As with any top side, the engine room is vital to the way Liverpool play. Fabrizio Romano believes a new central midfielder is required before the window shuts.

“It’s gone quiet at Liverpool, as many expected, but if it were up to me I think I’d still be in the market for at least one more signing,” he wrote in his column on Caught Offside’s Substack.

“Personally, I’d sign a new central midfielder. Jurgen Klopp wanted Aurelien Tchouameni when he was at Monaco and held some talks over the deal, but the player preferred Real Madrid.

“I think another midfielder could help Liverpool, a player like Matheus Nunes, a talented 23-year-old from Sporting Lisbon, would be a smart idea. But Liverpool always think long-term and I’m sure they will invest in a midfielder in 2023.”

Are Liverpool interested in signing a new midfielder?

There is no denying that the Reds want another midfielder.

FSG did everything they felt they could to sign Aurelien Tchouameni but Real Madrid blew them out of the water.

There were also strong links to Barcelona's teenage wonder, Gavi, but nothing has materialised.

Stronger yet, reports have claimed that Liverpool want Jude Bellingham and aren't scared off by his £103M price tag but will have to wait until 2023 to sign him.

Recent reports have suggested that Matheus Nunes is a target for Liverpool. The £42M midfielder allegedly believes a move "could happen at any time."
