Eder Militao's availability should be explored by Liverpool this month

Real Madrid and Brazil centre-back Eder Militao looks set to leave the Spanish capital this month.

Los Blancos are willing to let Militao leave Madrid on a six-month loan deal, with the option to buy.

That is according to Duncan Castles, who told The Transfer Window podcast that Militao has fallen down the pecking order at Madrid.

He said: “Madrid are trying to offload the player, they want ideally to sell. I’m told their asking price is €50 million (£44.5m), but there is the option there of getting Militao on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season.”

Interestingly, Liverpool are in dire need of a centre-back at the moment. The Reds have only one fit senior centre-back available in Joe Matip, but his fitness issues are a concern.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has had to play Fabinho as a centre-back, and the Brazilian has shone in his new role.

However, we have seen captain Jordan Henderson also play in defence, emphasising the position Liverpool are currently in.

During this window, the club has taken the stance that signings will only be made if the deal is right. However, this is an opportunity to good to miss, as the loan fee has been spoken about at just €2.5m.

With the club knowing that Real Madrid are willing to lose Eder Militao, the Reds are in a strong position. The Reds will be in control during any negotiation whether it be the loan move or agreeing on a permanent fee.

For just €2.5m you are bringing in a player to play in a position that has been torn apart so far this season. All the signs are pointing towards a move for Eder Militao being a smart move, in the short term and long term.
