‘Noooo’,’Advantage Leeds,’: Many Liverpool fans are in meltdown over seriously worrying early team news

Liverpool fans are in meltdown over a report from the Mirror that Adrian is set to start over Caoimhín Kelleher if Alisson Becker is forced to sit out due to a five-day FIFA ban.

FIFA has hit Alisson Becker, Fabinho Tavares and Roberto Firmino with a ban for not responding to an international call-up and will be unable to play this weekend.

The club is working to overturn the ban but with no update on the matter yet, Jurgen Klopp will have to turn to his backup goalkeepers and while the Irish Mirror reported that Kelleher was set to start, the Mirror reports otherwise.

The report, penned by Mark Taylor, reads: “In goal, Adrian is set to deputise for the banned Alisson, though Caoimhin Kelleher is also in with a shout to start.”

Liverpool fans have reacted with great concern and likely remember how last season’s meeting with Aston Villa went down, with the Reds losing 7-2 on the road.

Hopefully, this is wide of the mark. Jurgen Klopp actually confirmed last season that Kelleher is Liverpool’s no.2 ahead of Adrian so unless there has been some change of heart behind the scenes, the 22-year-old will start.

The hope from the club, however, remains that Alisson and Fabinho will be given the all-clear to play as negotiations are ongoing between the Premier League and the Brazilian FA over a ‘sensible’ solution to FIFA’s ban.

Alisson is arguably the best goalkeeper in the league and not having him in the side is a big miss so Klopp and his coaching staff will be waiting with their fingers crossed to hear if they will be able to get him into their starting XI for the game this weekend.

If Alisson can’t be selected, Adrian absolutely mustn’t start either as he is quite simply a liability and even with level headed veterans like Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk at the back, Adrian’s presence in the side makes Liverpool nervy and just increases Leeds United’s chances of winning.

The Spaniard means well but it’s no surprise that he battled to find a club after he was released by West Ham and he simply isn’t at the level required to play regularly for Liverpool and fortunately, Kelleher is a very talented ‘keeper and is more than capable of being Alisson’s no.2.
