Liverpool are in a great place as a club heading into the new season.

The club has signed firepower at the top end of the pitch to replace Sadio Mane’s goals with Darwin Nunez.

All the talk has been around signing a midfielder – given the issues with injuries over recent seasons.

However, comments from Liverpool’s Pep Lijnders suggest that they won’t be signing any new midfielders this summer.

Lijnders comments on Naby Keita

The Liverpool coach wrote in his new book titled Intensity that Naby Keita is a dream player to have in their squad.

He had been linked with a swap deal to Juventus earlier in the window, as rumours circulated about the midfielder who’s currently in the final year of his deal.

“Naby is the best substitute player you can imagine.” Lijnders wrote in his new book.

“Everyone in the opposition is tired and he can dribble past them as if they are mannequins!”

Keita is in the final year of his deal and it seems he is loved by Jurgen Klopp and his staff so it stands to reason he would be offered a new deal.

However, the only issue is his injury record; since joining in 2018 he’s missed 62 games through injury.

There is also doubts over his consistency which is why the likes of Jude Bellingham, Matheus Nunes and Nicolo Barella are all major targets.

Having produced his best season at the club last year, he still only contributed four goals and three assists in 40 games but it seems a new deal will have to be agreed upon soon or Liverpool risk losing him for free next summer.
