Former Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra has spoken out about Darwin Nunez’s slow start and claims that the Uruguayan has that top striker mentality,
Nunez signed from Benfica for £85M this summer but hasn’t lit up Anfield quite like how many imagined he would.
His stats show two goals and one assist in six games and his red card against Crystal Palace definitely disrupted his settling-in process in game week two. It’s clear he needs some regular minutes before he can truly find his Benfica form.
Former Manchester United and French international Patrice Evra was discussing the Premier League and spoke about Nunez will hate every time he doesn’t score as that’s how the top strikers motivate themselves.

Evra on Nunez
Evra was speaking to Betfair about the Premier League and spoke about how Nunez will hate not scoring as all strikers want to do is score.
“[He] has just come to a new league but when Liverpool wins and he doesn’t score I know he won’t sleep.” Claimed Evra when speaking to Betfair.
“It’s in their DNA. I remember Van Nistelrooy when we won a game 4-0, and at 4-0 he was picking up the ball and running to the centre to put the ball down because he wanted to score a goal.”
“After that game, he was angry, we’d just won 4-0. Those guys are born for scoring goals. I know they say the most important thing is the team.
“They’re trying to be humble. The most important thing for them is that they are scoring goals. That’s the truth.”

Nunez has had an indifferent start so far, but it’s not entirely his fault. This Liverpool side has struggled on the whole and it hasn’t been an easy transition for him because of that.
He was coming into the settled side of last season, with everyone fully fit and firing, it’s likely he would have hit the ground running.
Given that Liverpool are beginning to welcome players back from injury, they should begin to improve. However, the return of Diogo Jota could spell trouble for Nunez as Liverpool need to try and close the gap to the top of the table but they also want Nunez to get regular game time to become more familiar with his team and his new league.
It will be interesting to see if Klopp gives Nunez a full run in the team, despite their shaky form.
