“On course for…” James Pearce reports on Twitter when €60m Luis Diaz will be announced as a Liverpool player

Liverpool fans are patiently waiting for the worst kept secret in football to be made official.

Luis Diaz is a Liverpool player. That much is difficult to hide. The last few days have seen the Colombian’s name used more on social media than it likely ever has and that’s not meant to be disrespectful at all.

That’s simply what happens when you move from Porto to Liverpool. You go from being an exciting player to being watched by players, pundits, journalists and fans from every corner of the globe.

Luis Diaz is now a global name and the obsession with him has already started with fans on social media already tweeting Liverpool begging for him to be announced as the club’s latest player.

What do we know about Luis Diaz?

He was first linked with Liverpool several months ago but the first report this month came from Portugal when Pedro Almeida claimed Porto wanted €70m to sell the player and so the Reds signing him for €40m with €20m in add-ons is a fantastic deal.

The first significant sign that Diaz might join Liverpool came when Spurs made a bid and every report was dominated by the news that the forward preferred a move to Anfield.

Then, multiple local journalists reported that the Reds were working to complete a deal to sign Diaz.

What’s happening right now?

Diaz is in Argentina right now, fresh off a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Peru.

Diaz will have got a sense of how much bigger Liverpool are just based on the reaction to that defeat as Diaz was scapegoated for the loss despite much of the play going through James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao.

He has completed the first part of his Liverpool medical and signed his Liverpool contract as his move to Anfield draws ever closer.

The January transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday and so there is little danger of a Nabil Fekir collapse happening and the Colombian is very close to being announced as a Liverpool player.

When will Luis Diaz be announced as a Liverpool player?

This will have been a stressful transfer to complete for the Reds and as reported by the Liverpool Echo on Saturday, it was a logistically nightmarish transfer to complete due to Diaz being in South America.

That said, with the first part of his medical complete and the contract signed as reported by Fabrizio Romano, an announcement isn’t far off now.

James Pearce tweeted this morning that we’re on course for a dramatic deadline day announcement.
