Liverpool secured the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia during the summer transfer window, though the Georgian goalkeeper will only join the Reds next season.
According to reports from the print edition of Super Deporte, Valencia are now searching for a reliable replacement for the 23-year-old international, whose performances have made him a key figure at the Mestalla. With Mamardashvili agreeing to move to Liverpool, the Spanish side are eager to fill the gap he will leave behind.
Earlier in the summer, Valencia brought in North Macedonian goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski from Rayo Vallecano. However, Dimitrievski, now 30, has mostly been a backup this season.
As he nears his 31st birthday, the club is reportedly looking for a younger goalkeeper who can provide long-term stability.
While Valencia might need to invest in the transfer market, the club is first considering its academy talent. Super Deporte highlights that Valencia’s youth system has previously developed impressive goalkeepers like Vicente Guaita and Cristian Rivero.
One standout prospect is 16-year-old Luis Romero Descals. Having already trained with Valencia’s first team under head coach Ruben Baraja, Romero recently made his debut for Valencia Mestalla in a friendly match.
The young talent is already considered capable of stepping up to the first team, and there is growing speculation about whether he could eventually replace Mamardashvili.
Super Deporte has also praised Mamardashvili, describing him as a “complete” goalkeeper, and predicting he will become one of the best in the world. The 23-year-old’s nomination for the prestigious Yachine Trophy, following an impressive European Championship campaign for Georgia, further underscores his rising stature.
Valencia must now decide whether Romero is ready for the challenge or if external reinforcements are needed to replace their soon-to-depart star goalkeeper.
