Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has said that Marc Guehi should consider moving to Liverpool over joining Newcastle United.
Guehi has been in the news following his performances at EURO 2024. He stepped in for the injured Harry Maguire, as England made the final. Since the tournament ended, Marc Guehi has been linked to multiple clubs, including Manchester United, Newcastle United and Liverpool.
The former Chelsea academy player moved to Crystal Palace in 2021 and quickly became one of their best players. His importance to the club was solidified last season when he became one of the youngest players to wear the captains armband at Selhurst Park.
Reds have not moved for Marc Guehi
Despite being linked to Liverpool this summer, the merseyside club are yet to make a bid of any sort. The Reds had not planned any move to sign the defender this summer. Liverpool do not want to be sucked into a bidding war, which they see as a way for Crystal Palace to inflate the transfer fee for the defender.
Newcastle United on the other hand, have seen two bids already rejected and are preparing a third bid of around £60million.
Liverpool are stocked in defence ahead of the new season, and are not looking to add any options. With Van Dijk, Konate, Gomez and Quansah, the Reds are in no hurry to sign any defenders.
Ex-Palace owner urges Guehi to join Reds
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has said on talkSPORT that Guehi should consider Liverpool, if they do make an offer for him. And that a move to Anfield is a better prospect than playing for Newcastle United:
“If you’re Palace, the more competitive tension you have, the more revenue you get from the deal. “As a Palace fan, irrespective of being a former owner, I couldn’t care less where he goes – as long as it’s not Brighton! As long as I get the maximum amount of economic return from it. If the player wants to go and I’m commercially obligated to let him go then, whoever it is, if you’re going to choose between Liverpool and Newcastle, with due respect, you’re going to choose Liverpool.”
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is determined to keep Guehi, at the club as he sees the defender as one of the most important members of the team. Earlier this summer, Glasner spoke about transfers, and said he was determined to keep Palace’s best players at the club to remain competitive for the Premier League this season.
“I’m always optimistic as all these players have contracts with Crystal Palace.”
He added, “It’s May and many situations can change. Nothing is 100 per cent but he’s under contract, he [Guehi] is a good player, he’s our captain, so I’m very positive and confident that he plays for Crystal Palace.”
