Neil Jones has explained why it’s taken so long for Liverpool to formalise a deal for Fabio Carvalho while speaking on The Redmen TV Podcast.
The 19-year-old almost sealed a move to Anfield in the January transfer window but it all fell apart at the 11th hour.
It was reported at the time that a lack of time to process the required paperwork for his move to Liverpool and the non-negotiable loan back to Fulham caused a move to fall through.
Speaking on The Redmen TV Podcast, Jones explained that Liverpool were happy to step back and give Carvalho space to assess his options.
He said: “At the start of Feb it looked like something was agreed there, and the information I got was that they could have forced that move through more in January.
“But they were comfortable with how they’d conducted themselves and that they had the goodwill of the player, the agent and Fulham, so they were happy for him to go and have a look elsewhere.”
Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool completed negotiations with Fulham and an agreement has been reached over a £5million upfront fee to bring him to the club in the summer.
The Italian journalist reports: “Liverpool have decided to announce Fabio Carvalho’s signing in the coming weeks to respect Fulham, their fans and player still focused on Championship.
“The negotiation is 100% completed, as exclusively reported last Thursday. No chance for other clubs to hijack the deal.”

Carvalho joining Liverpool is a thrilling move for the club and although man fans were disappointed he didn’t join at the same time as Luis Diaz when his move fell through earlier this year, he was always going to be loaned straight back to Fulham so there’s no real difference for supporters aside from the increased suspense.
However, with Liverpool’s unprecedented success on the pitch this season, Carvalho moving to Anfield has naturally become a minor detail while the Reds historically pursue an epic quadruple.
They’ve already won the League Cup, are into the FA Cup final, can book their place in the Champions League final with strong showings against Villarreal next week and the following week while they must continue to fight in the Premier League to leapfrog Manchester City in the league table.
