Liverpool fell prey to Napoli last night and struggled with one player in particular – Piotr Zielinski and the Polish star was once close to joining Liverpool.
The Reds fell to a disappointing 4-1 loss in Italy last night which sees them rooted to the bottom of Group A with Rangers, following Ajax’s big win over the Scottish side.
Jurgen Klopp will be dismayed with the level of performances in recent times and last night was a stark reminder that this Liverpool team is truly struggling at this moment in time.
The Polish international starred against Liverpool with two goals but, once upon a time, he was very close to signing for Liverpool.

Zielinski nearly joined Liverpool – what happened?
Right at the start of Jurgen Klopp’s reign, he had asked for the signing of Zielinski when he was at Udinese back in the summer of 2016.
The then-22-year-old was even pictured posing for photos with the Liverpool kit. However, the transfer did not come to fruition.
Napoli snatched Zielinski from under Klopp’s nose and completed a €10m deal and he has since gone on to play 287 games for the Naples club.
In that time, he’s scored 43 and assisted 37 times, winning only the Italian cup during that time. He’s also a highly experienced international for Poland, with 72 caps.

Previously, he had been compared to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne by Italian legend Giuseppe Bergomi, when he spoke to Przeglad Sportowy.
Furthermore, he had also received high praise from agent di Carlo, who has known the player since he was just 16:
“He is a great player. In my opinion, he could go and play for (the big) teams tomorrow, like Liverpool or Real Madrid.” He claimed.
“In short, Napoli is right to keep him. Therefore, I don’t think – unless there are offers from great clubs – that he will leave.”
