Mohamed Salah picked up the prestigious Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award for the second time as a Liverpool player at a ceremony on Thursday evening.

This season, the world-class Egyptian has scored 30 goals and assisted 14 and has been a major part of Liverpool’s quadruple-hunting squad.

He told Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Michael Owen on BT Sport after the 3-2 win over Villarreal that he was aiming for 40 goals while he has hit his assist target for the season.

The award ceremony was held at the Landmark Hotel in London and Salah took a private jet along with some important figures to collect his award.

Pictured at his table, amidst his contract talks with Liverpool, was his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, Julian Ward and Michael Edwards, the club’s present and future sporting directors.

Liverpool are in talks with Salah over a potentially club-record-smashing contract renewal and so it’s poignant to see him surrounded by the men responsible for making sure that Salah is kept happy at the club.

So far, there have yet to be any signs that a contract extension is close but at the same time, there have yet to be any indications that talks are set to break down so supporters have little to go on.

What is clear, and Salah has been desperate to make this clear, is that the forward is very keen to stay at Liverpool and continue this incredible journey that Jurgen Klopp has taken us all on.

He currently earns £225,000 per week but after reaching the top of the European game since last putting pen to paper, he deserves an increase but how much he will be given by Liverpool is unclear.

The German signed his own contract extension last week, re-committing his future to the Anfield faithful until 2026.

The hope among fans is that it helps Salah and the powers that be come to an agreement over the sticking points in contract talks to ensure the former Basel high-flyer remains at the club for as long as possible.

Excitingly, Liverpool have told Sadio Mane’s representatives that they can expect a contract offer of his own.
