Paul Joyce reports that contract negotiations with Mohamed Salah are proving tricky as Liverpool’s offer will need to be the biggest in the club’s history.
He writes: “Mohamed Salah’s contract renewal is the most important for Liverpool – but also the most tricky.
“The club’s pitch to their star forward will have to be the biggest they have ever made to a player.”
The ‘Egyptian King’ opened his account for the 21/22 Premier League season with a goal and two assists vs. Norwich City to highlight his importance to Liverpool.
As if it was ever in doubt.
It’s a pity that Salah will not become the top earner in the Premier League with Liverpool because, in my opinion, he’s the best player in the division.
FSG simply don’t pay the kind of wages that Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea do but if you can argue that footballers deserve their salaries, Salah should be earning more than any other in England.
Since he moved back to the Premier League, he has scored more goals than any other forward, has won the title and also helped Liverpool win the Champions League.
Had Virgil van Dijk and co. not gotten injured last season, it’s likely the Egyptian would have added another trophy to his haul.
Salah is clearly happy at Liverpool as his celebrations after each goal against Norwich would suggest but as long as a new contract remains an issue, his future will hang in the balance.
While the likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have been linked with the club, their wages would make joining the Reds a difficulty and theres’ no guarantees they can replicate what Salah has accomplished.
